shadow19's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ahhhhh, home. Today is our last decompression day before we’re shoved back into the post-vacation world. With the exception of an afternoon walk, we’ve hardly ventured out. I’m glad we restocked our groceries yesterday, as I’m trying to maintain an atmosphere of soothing calm and the grocery store is pretty much the antithesis of that. While I always enjoy being away, there’s a certain thrill to coming home again. After we picked the pups up at the vet’s, Boo raced from room to room like he couldn’t believe that the house actually existed. God knows what was going through their little puppy brains. I’m enjoying my refrigerator. (Not a good sign, is it?) It just seemed like we were always on the hunt for [high priced] water, fruit, soda, ice cream, etc. and at home it’s all right here. Whenever we want it. Seemingly free. No more hunting for an orange. Nice. My email inbox isn’t too bad. (I’d expected worse.) I’ll spend tomorrow morning sorting through the most critical stuff, then ease back into the week. The students are still off for another week, and the faculty will be trickling back in, so I shouldn’t have to get going full-bore for a few days. There…now I’ve jinxed that. And is there anything as nice as one’s own bed/shower/toilet? I think not. This, I fear, means that I am getting frighteningly old. Getting attached to particular plumbing fixtures HAS to mean that. It’s also nice to be wearing freshly laundered jeans, rather than baggy-kneed, in-flight jeans. I swear, I just step on a plane and all of the crispness drains out of my clothes. There are freshly baked brownies on the kitchen counter, the cats are napping, and we’re thinking about soup for dinner.
