shadow19's Diaryland Diary

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Day One

New Year's Eve was quiet, quiet, quiet...as always. We had breakfast out (our treat for the day), but then had homemade macaroni and cheese for dinner. Fred dozed while I worked on getting my Day Planner cleaned out and reloaded with the 2005 pages. That's pretty much my New Year's Eve ritual...starting with the proverbial clean slate...or so I like to imagine. For the bulk of the evening, "Seinfeld" episodes provided background interest, though I stopped long enough to actually watch the "Soup Nazi" episode. I also put together a small loose leaf binder to use for my 2005 journal, and wrote out a page of resolutions. (One of which is to actually WRITE in said journal for more than a day or two.)

We started out today with a bowl of Irish oatmeal (healthy start!), and headed out to the Lemony Snicket movie late morning. Then soup and a BIG cookie at Panera, a little shopping (scored a nice leather jacket at 50% off), a few groceries, and we still have a nice stretch of evening to look forward to. Nicely paced day. Nicely paced long weekend. That's all that I ask for.

Resolutions? Here's the list...
1) Use the journal. Shoot for daily.
2) Floss. Also shoot for daily.
3) Use up stuff before buying more, even if items are on sale...e.g., books, stockpiled toothpaste, pantry items, wrapping paper, cookie mixes, soap, pens, etc. Let's face it, there will always be more sales.
4) Keep bank accounts up to date in Quicken and regularly balanced.
5) Watch less TV. Make cards instead.
6) Cut back...somewhat...on sugar. (It should probably be noted that I just downed two Ghiardelli caramel filled chocolate squares as I'm typing.)
7) Methodically purge drawers and closets.
8) Pare down magazine subscriptions to absolute favorites only...Real Simple, Oprah, Everyday Food, Papercrafts.
9) Make use of the fitness center at work.
10) Read the bible in a year. Try not to sputter out around Isaiah this time.
11) Write an essay every now and then.
12) Write actual notes and letters.

That should do it. Day one, and I'm still feeling hopeful.

364 to go.
