The college recently sent out a plea for families/couples/singles to host an international student. Intriguing, I thought, but then launched into my usual endless pondering. What if we're too boring? (Not really the right question. I KNOW we're too boring.) What if he/she wants to see the country? We don't go much of anywhere. Blah, blah, blah. (I should explain. By "hosting," they mean only that you do a few things with the student, include them in holidays, etc. No huge demands.) Finally, hating this "spinning of the mental wheels" that I'm so prone to, I signed up via email. Yup, typed up an acceptance and boldly hit "send." So now we've been assigned Cristina from Moldova. I looked up where Moldova is, but now I've forgotten. I do know that it's land-locked, tightly wedged between a couple of other countries. Must study just a tad. I just hope that I don't do that shouting thing that people do when speaking to foreigners. Not that she won't speak English. (Hope she likes lying around watching dumb TV while thumbing through catalogs, as that's pretty much what I'm about lately.) Anyway, there's a meet and eat dinner planned for next Sunday night. Should be fun. Maybe we'll bring along the pups, as they never fail to charm. But can they compete with a family that travels to the Grand Canyon?
