The rain held off just long enough for our little group of women to get out for a short Saturday morning hike. Afterwards, we celebrated Anne's 50th birthday in the tired pavilion, decked out with a few pink balloons. Instead of cake, we placed star-shaped candles on a platter of chunked up watermelon, cantalope, pineapple, and grapes, and offered up a warbly rendition of "Happy Birthday." Another woman provided snack-size baggies of trail mix. This was a trail mix to love...a jumble of Froot Loops, Golden Grahams, cashews, peanuts, and M&M's. None of those pesky raisins to eat around. "Nothing is more important than this day," was printed on Anne's birthday mug.
